OxyComfort Corporation was formed in 2003 with the sole purpose of making portable medical oxygen more comfortable to carry for patients of Long Term Oxygen Therapy(LTOT) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD).
Probably the most voiced ambulatory oxygen patient complaint and the one that the home oxygen industry is constantly trying to alleviate is that portable oxygen dispensing systems weigh too much. This problem has mostly been approached by making smaller, lighter tanks and regulators to lessen the weight. This solution reaches a point of diminishing returns as the size and weight of the system largely dictates how much oxygen and for how long it can be provided to the patient. Recent advances in liquid oxygen, conserving regulators, and portable oxygen concentrators have all improved on the patient's daily life experience in living with ambulatory oxygen. However, when all of these systems are carried on a patient's shoulder via a strap, the weight is still there.
OxyComfort has taken a different and much simpler approach to this problem that has been used successfully in other applications to lighten loads carried by a shoulder strap. OxyComfort developed a neoprene oxygen carrier bag that utilizes a patented flexible strap to lighten the perceived weight that patients feel when they carry their portable oxygen. The steady pull against the shoulder is greatly reduced by the strap's flexing as a patient moves or takes a step resulting in a feeling of less weight.
OxyComfort's technology is being recognized in the industry as a viable method for making ambulatory oxygen systems feel lighter to the patient. The company has successfully marketed its products at medical trade shows and has filled orders from many HME supplier/providers. Notable original equipment manufacturers are also now using or recommend OxyComfort's products in conjunction with their own.
OxyComfort is also now marketing its unique oxygen carrier bag and strap systems to the patient directly. Patients can now order a strap or system from this web site even if their current oxygen supplier does not offer OxyComfort products.
